Pheasant Hunting |
| |
The pheasant hunting area is a 1,750 acre portion of the Merwin's working ranch.
| |
| It has 1,200 acres of managed CRP, 6 water ponds, several water ways, twelve tree shelter belts and several food plots. |
The 1,750 acres is managed exclusively to produce large numbers of pheasants for your hunting enjoyment. After a field is hunted it is rested for 3 days before being hunted again. |
The CRP is in rather large blocks. Strips of cover are swathed to ground level to help control birds from running out of the fields being hunted and to reduce the size of the hunting fields.
| You will be guided by Dave, who was raised on the ranch and is the developer of the habitat. He has hunted the area all his life and recommends a 12 gauge automatic or pump shotgun, modified to full adjustable choke with 6-shot shells early in the season and up to a 4-shot later in the season. Magazine plus barrel limit is 3 shells. |
| |
Upon request transportation is provided from the lodge to the hunting fields or you can follow Dave in your own vehicle. |
Breakfast is served at 7:00 a.m., leaving for the field by 8:30 and breaking for lunch at 12:00. |
| |
Dogs are welcome,
but they must be able to be controlled within shooting range of the hunting line for the enjoyment of all. |
| A bird cleaning area and supplies are provided or utilize a free professional processing. Please bring your own transportation cooler. |
